Dayton saloon owner James Ritty, fed up with employees pocketing the cash they collected from customers, invented the cash register.
Back in 1879, you could either trust your whisky slingers or “Ritty’s Incorruptible Cashier.”
By 1884, Ritty’s invention had led to the creation of the National Cash Register company which created the more advanced model shown above and still exists today.
