M is for William McKinley
Born on January 29, 1843 in Niles, Ohio
Died on September 14, 1901 in Buffalo, New York
President #25: 1897 to 1901
(assassinated while in office, his Vice President was Theodore Roosevelt)
- “I have never been in doubt since I was old enough to think intelligently that I would someday be made president.”
- “In the time of darkest defeat, victory may be nearest.”
- “War should never be entered upon until every agency of peace has failed.”
Normally, saying something like “I have never been in doubt since I was old enough to think intelligently that I would someday be made president.” sounds like delusion, but when you’re William McKinley it’s just good old fashioned cocksure bravado!
