… About five or six years ago, I began to notice an increasing interest in “Ohio Pride”, for lack of a better term. The more prevalent this trend/affection has become, the more I’ve questioned its origins. There’s a great deal of sincerity behind this wave of love for the Buckeye State, but why did it start growing when it did?
Good question! I can’t wait to see what you have in store for us. I highly recommend following I Love Columbus, the Columbus Dispatch tumblr and the Columbus Neighborhoodr if you don’t already.
As for Fuck Yeah Ohio…
Back in 2005, fed up with the self-deprecation of some of my fellow Ohioans, I made the original Fuck Yeah Ohio logo and used it as my avatar on the Donewaiting forum. A handful of folks liked it and asked for shirts/stickers/buttons, so I had some made… and then some more. Then, a couple years ago, I started this blog to spread the good word about Ohio and its awesomeness. The logo and blog posts get attention and start positive conversations about Ohio. The way I see it, the more people there are excited to be here, the better.
It’s easy to be excited about Columbus too. Our cost of living is absurdly low. For the same money, you can either rent a tiny 1-bedroom apartment in New York City or buy a 3-bedroom house in the middle of a really nice neighborhood here. If you love good food, music and art, moving to Columbus feels like winning the lottery.
